The Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra
is an internationally recognized symphony orchestra of the highest artistic
caliber. They are an indispensable part of the WNY Community's quality
of life. The BPO is currently in its 64th season as Buffalo's leading source
of diverse cultural enrichment and entertainment. They are considered on
of the major philharmonic orchestras in the United States.
The BPO was founded in 1935 and incorporated
in 1936, becoming a permanent professional ensembles under its first music
director Franco Autori. In 1940 the BPO moved into its permanent home,
Kleinhans Music Hall, which is today a National Historic Landmark.
The prominence of the BPO is evidenced
by the quality of its musicians and Music Director. Past directors include
Lucas Foss and Michael Tilson Thomas (who won a Grammy in 1999). Current
director, JoAnn Falletta, leads the BPO through 17 different series, ranging
from Classical, Pop, Jazz to eclectic collaborations - a banquet with something
for everyone.
