The Road
rock band
BMHOF Class of 1997

Formed in 1967 as The Mellow Brick Road, the original members included Phil Hudson (vocals), Jerry Hudson (vocals), Nick DiStefano (drums/ vocals), Ralph Parker (guitar), Joe Hesse (bass) and Jim Hesse (keyboards). Early members also included keyboardists Jake Jakubowski and Ken Kaufman. They charted on Billboard with their United Artists single "All Your Eggs in One Basket". This was followed by several other singles including "She's Not There" and "Music Man" on Kama Sutra. "She's Not There" sold over 200,000 copies, was regional hit in many cities and even charted in Greece.

While signed to Kama Sutra they released two albums, "The Road - The One Less Traveled By" in 1969 and "Cognition" in 1971. During this time they performed throughout the East Coast and filled area clubs on a regular basis.

The original group broke up in 1972, but later incarnations of the group, with various original members, surfaced during the 1980's. Some of the more popular recarnations included guitarist Dave Elder guitarist Bobby Lebel and drummer Sal Joseph.

Currently Nick DiStefano is working as a successful songwriter in Nashville and Joe Hesse is involved in the Los Angeles music scene, where he was tour manager for Chick Corea.
